Google PageRank is a buzz word that is much discussed by the people involved in any sort of internet marketing. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts say that looking at the heart of PageRank could be a mathematical formula seeming complex but is reality; it is quite simple to understand.
PageRank can be defined as a numerical value representing how important a webpage is on the internet. The search engine giant evaluates that when one webpage is linked to other page, it is significantly create a vote for that another page. More are the votes cast for a webpage, greater is importance given to the webpage. In addition, the importance of the web-page that casts the vote decides how crucial is the vote itself. Google takes into account a webpage's importance based on the votes cast for that. Every vote is crucial while calculating the PageRank of the website’s webpage.
The PageRank is Google's fashion to decide a web page's importance. It does matter since that is one of the factors that reflect the ranks of the web page in the SERPs. Nevertheless, it is not the only factor Google sees to rank pages, but certainly an important one. It is not a secret anymore that Google stands as the number one de facto search engine in the field of internet. As on today, this search engine giant accounts for more than 80% of all Internet searches every day. Google has come up with its local versions those are run in many different countries such as US, Canada, India, Japan, the U.K., Hong-Kong etc.
Why only Google Algorithms?
There are innumerable small scaled and not so small scaled businesses existing almost on Google that brings them new customers, day in and day out. When thousands of companies’ entire livelihoods depend on just one single search engine, this reflects us a lot about the skyrocketing graph of Google’s success. Along with this, it also emphasis the importance of any website ranks that is high in Google. Google has developed the PageRank (PR) Algorithm in order that develops an independent and substantial ranking system that got integrity, is very beneficial to everyone and is also effective for all kind of internet surfers who search for a specific keyword or key phrase.
PageRank can also be displayed on the toolbar of almost all the internet browser, provided it is to be installed from authentic websites. However, the Toolbar PageRank only moves from 0 – 10 and appears to be something like a ordered series. Let us see what exactly it means:-
Toolbar PageRank (long base 10)
|
Real Page Rank |
| 0 |
0-10 |
| 1 |
100 - 1,000 |
| 2 |
1.000 - 10,000 |
| 3 |
10,000 - 100, 000 |
| 4 |
And so on........ |
However, it is very difficult to know the exact details of that scale since the maximum PRs of all the web-pages on the websites change every month as Google re-indexes regularly! Also the toolbar sometimes just estimates! In some of the cases the Toolbar shows a Toolbar PR for webpages those are just uploaded and but no possibly got indexed!
Many of SEO experts believe that the toolbar sees the URL of the web-page the browser is showing and gets off everything down the last “/” (means, it crawls the “parent” page in URL term). If Google finds a Toolbar PageRank for that parent then it takes off 1 and displays that as the Toolbar PageRank for that page. If it does not find PageRank for the parent it then crawls to the parent’s parent web-page! But subtracting 2; and this procedure is on up to the root of any website it is on! If it does not get a Toolbar PageRank to display in this fashion i.e. if it doesn’t get a webpage with a genuine calculated PageRank, then the bar is grayed out.
One has to understand that if the Toolbar is behaving in this way, in real, the PageRank of the web-page is zero! Though its PageRank would be calculated very soon once the Google spider crawls for the first time. Another important thing to remember is PR says nothing about any content or size of the web-page, the syntax it’s content has, or the text that is used in the link’s anchor.
