Focusing too much on Meta Tags

There are many people who think search engine optimization is all about getting the Meta Keyword and description in coordination! However, one can create the Meta Keyword and description but then should not expect to rank high only due to this.

Use of images for Headings

Many SEO (optimizers) think that images look greater than just a plain text for heading and menu. Indeed, images can make the website appear more classifiable but in terms of search engine optimization, images used for headings and menus turn to be a mistake since h2, h2, and so on tags and menu links are quite essential search engine optimization components.

Backlink spammers

It is a common misbelieve that the more are the backlinks, better would be the results. In this way, website owners have recourse to link farms, forums/new group spams etc., that finally may end up in getting the website banned. As a matter of fact, what all is required is quality backlinks.

Targeting inappropriate keywords

So if the website has JavaScript menu you do not have any other option other than, it is better to consider building a sitemap (or just to put the link in a noscripttag). This will let all the weblinks get crawlable.

Consistency and maintenance interruptions

One of the major SEO mistakes is the belief that once the website is optimized, it is all done, forever. This mis-concept takes its toll and throws the website away. The websites or webpages stand nowhere and they are not visible on the internet. Finally, this makes website a dumb in the dark! If you want success, you must optimize the website on a constant basis and you should update it regularly. It is also advisable to keep watch on current marketing strategies and competition to alter or change the website optimization. You should also constant learn ranking algorithms of search engine giants.

Content that is lacking keyword/keyphrase

The content is definitely a king! However, it is must to focus on the keywords, alter the content and spice it up with appropriate keywords wherever they carry some sense. Many SEO experts think that It is even better making them bold or to highlight in any way.

Ignorance of URLs

Many of the SEO (optimizers) undervalue the importance of a good URL has. Dynamic page names have been used quite frequently and no keyword in the URL is considered as a rule than exclusion. Contrary to the popular belief, it is quite possible ranking higher though you don’t have keywords in the URL. But, all in all, if there is a keyword in the URL (the domain itself, or a file name that is a part of the URL), this can get you additional advantage battling the competitors. Keyword in URLs is essential for search engines such as MSN and Yahoo! but even with the giant Google, the relative weight is quite significant, so there is no excuse for having URLs without keyword.
